Cybersecurity Isn’t an IT Problem—It’s a Leadership Problem

For many SMBs, cybersecurity still gets handed off like a hot potato:

“Yeah… IT will handle that.”

“Didn’t we buy a tool for this?”

“Let’s get the tech person to look into it.”

But here’s the truth: Cybersecurity is now a leadership responsibility, not an IT chore.

When no one at the leadership level is actively steering security decisions, the organization inevitably ends up in “reaction mode” instead of “prevention mode.” Tools get bought. Policies get drafted. Training might happen once a year. But none of it fits together.

And without structure, coordination, and accountability, even well-meaning efforts fall flat.

This is exactly why businesses—especially small and midsized ones—need a clear, empowered cybersecurity oversight team. A team that sets direction, monitors progress, and keeps everybody rowing in the same direction.

If your business is still expecting IT to do it alone, February is the perfect month to rethink that strategy.

If you want to see what a real security leadership structure looks like, we’ve put together a free 1-month preview of our IT Security Program Implementation Processes. It’s practical, simple, and a great first step.

Grab it on our landing page and follow along with the rest of this month’s series. https://itsppreview.cygentis.com
