Building a Security Awareness Program That Actually Works

Last week, we talked about the Human Firewall—your people as the first line of defense. So what does it take to actually build that defense? It comes down to four key ingredients.
1. Frequency
One annual training is not enough. Monthly touchpoints are ideal. Threats evolve fast, and so should your reminders.
2. Delivery Method
Mix it up: videos, quizzes, live sessions, short tips. People learn differently, and variety keeps the content from becoming background noise.
3. Content
Teach the basics—password hygiene, phishing signs—then layer in emerging threats as they appear.
4. Testing
Simulated phishing attacks and short quizzes help measure effectiveness and reinforce lessons in a low-stakes way.
A good program educates without overwhelming. It builds muscle memory, not fear.
